Research @ SynthX

SynthX Solutions for Addressing the Challenges:

Rice SynthX is leading the way in synthesizing and designing molecules with exceptional precision at various length scales. Through advanced techniques and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI), we are now able to manipulate and engineer macromolecular and supramolecular structures at an atomic level, surpassing the constraints of natural biological processes. This breakthrough paves the way for groundbreaking advancements and novel prospects in multiple fields. Leveraging Rice's extensive knowledge in organic and biological synthesis, nanomaterials, and computational biology, and connections with the TMC, the research conducted at Rice SynthX will primarily focus on four key areas:

Infrastructure of SynthX Center.
Infrastructure of SynthX Center.
  1. Pioneering Molecular Design.
  2. Leading Precision Protein Modification for Therapeutic Uses.
  3. Advancing Biomedical Materials.
  4. Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Drug Discovery.

These efforts will be integrated with ongoing work at the BCM DLDCCC Center, and draw on resources and expertise in Rice’s Systems, Synthetic, and Physical Biology (SSPB) program, the Center for Theoretical Biological Physics (CTBP), the Rice Institute for Advanced Materials, and the Rice NeuroEngineering Initiative. The SynthX Center will be overseen by a Center Director, supported by a faculty steering group consisting of representatives from the major research themes within the center. This steering group will be responsible for approving the budget. Additionally, the center's progress will be reviewed by an external committee comprising world-renowned leaders in both synthesis and cancer fields.
