Biological drugs, or therapeutics derived from biological products, including antibodies, vaccines, gene therapies, and cell therapies, often represent cutting-edge medicines that translate the latest scientific advancements into innovative treatments for patients. Building upon significant technical and conceptual breakthroughs (e.g. first bone-targeting drug delivery, transitional metal-based protein modification, and Genetic Code Expansion) at Rice University, chemical biology labs will collaborate with clinical researchers to synthesize advanced biologics that incorporate structures and functions beyond what nature can create. This effort will combine extensive theoretical and computational work with experimental developments aimed at addressing specific health-related issues.
